Well, Sunday I was supposed to blog, but we were a little busy running a half marathon! It went well and I finished in 1:57. I was in pain every step with my back and my knee, so I am calling it quits on long races! I am very happy with my decision and my body will be too! No one really believes me about this, but it is true. It was a good long "run" of races starting in 2001, so 18 years of events with friends and family, pushing our bodies to the max, and raising money for good causes (not that this will cease because I'm not doing long distance races). I did 5 Ironmans, 6 or 7 marathons, many half marathons, many half ironmans and too many to count olympic, sprint tris and 5ks or 10ks. I love the energy that comes with planning these with friends, raising money, helping others to get in shape, preparing my body for the race both mentally and physically. On race day, it's so nice to see like minded people out there pushing their bodies and minds as well. Racing is a high for me, but also working out in general has become a high for me in the last 2 years, when I decided that I don't need a race on my calendar in order to push myself. I want to push myself each day to be stronger, to sweat, to move to music, to get my steps in, to be good to my heart and my body for my future self. I am happier when I exercise, and I feel very lucky that I feel that way because I know some don't. Speaking of happiness, the Happiness Project February goal of Love went well, but I could have done better. The last week of February was difficult but I think I did pretty well staying positive! March 1st started Friends month and it was perfect with Jack getting here and then we hosted a spaghetti dinner on Saturday and the race was Sunday, had a great time with friends after and Monday I took off work to show Jack around. My goal last week was to plan friend time and I've done that! March 30th we will host a poker party. I'm trying to reach out to new friends in the community as well and also trying to plan more to improve my relationships. I want to video chat more with friends this month too! Lots of goals and all fun ones, so I'm excited!! Now, I am going to review the Friend chapter of Happiness project to get more ideas!
It is Ironman eve and everything is going great! We are sitting here in our hotel room of Fairfield Inn and they have wireless internet in the rooms so I'm typing on my laptop. Dustin's shaving, Dave is drinking a beer, Jeff and Jen are being assigned duties, Paula, Kendra's sister is getting last minute tips for cheering from Kendra. Now Jeff, Jen, and Dave's pizza just got here. Kendra, Dustin and I already ate our microwaved pasta about 6 PM, while we hung out by the indoor pool with some of the kids from our group. By group, I mean the best freakin cheer squad ever!!!! We had our lunch at Panera bread earlier at 12 and met up with most of Dustin's family and my parents old friends' Greg and Mary who they hadn't seen in 10 years and their daughter, Nikki who lives here in Madison who we grew up together! She is going to be a part of our cheering squad tomorrow along with Bill, Gwen, Jeff, Dave, Jen, Walt, Judy, Becky, Ken, Don, Carolyn, Shelley, Braxton, ...
