Getting back into it....writing not triathlon training
As I sit in my living room on the first rainy day in San Diego in what feels like a year, I am so thankful. Especially since I just read my last blog post from 2015 after my head injury. I sure haven't forgotten many of those tough details, but I did forget how thankful I felt as I started to finally feel better after a month of pain and boredom. I've started reading a book (for those of you who know me, you know I haven't read since college). But my good friend Kendra who moved back to Wisconsin suggested to our ladies friend group we have on Whatsapp that we read The Happiness Project and we have all gotten pretty into it. I turned 40 in July and I don't know what the heck has happened but I started drinking coffee and now I'm in an unofficial book club! What the heck? Speaking of turning 40, Dustin threw me the most unbelievable 40th lip sync battle birthday party and I will never forget so many crazy and fun memories from that night in our new home in Imperial Beach (moved in May). We finally "got in" to California real estate which has been a goal of ours since 2002 when I moved to San Diego the first time. With this crazy Navy life and the price of real estate near the beach, we have had to work pretty hard to get to this spot, but we are absolutely enjoying our new townhome and our new laid back town!
This Happiness Project has got me thinking more about my passions, and I have always loved to write! I remember writing short stories as a kid and my parents just loving them, of course they might have just been saying that....like when they said I "was sooooo good at" putting the silverware away....totally a trick! Why didn't I realize that then? Anyway, I can see them smiling while reading this and if they are the only ones who read it, that makes me smile!
I started this blog about training for triathlons and I think I will leave the name as a motivation, but as for now, I'm okay with swimming, biking, and running just for fun with no pressure and no long training days on the weekends. Dustin and I are enjoying our freedom finally with him just getting off hull on his ship which means he doesn't have to stand duty every 3rd day (24 hours on the ship on top of Mon-Fri workdays).
This picture is from Angels Landing at Zion National Park. This place was so breathtaking, I would love to go back tomorrow! And it is always nice to spend quality time in nature with your favorite people. My husband and my friends bring so much happiness to my life! I am not sure if I will continue to post on this blog or how often, but it was fun to get back in the spirit of writing. I will be setting myself some serious goals for 2019, so I am hoping I will be back on to report (and also help hold me accountable). I am sure I will enjoy reading these in the future when I'm sipping my coffee and putting off my future book club assignments :)
